Wax – we had a bag of beeswax, so we used that but you could either buy wax or use old candles, melted down.
Aromatics: we used a quarter dried orange slice, a bay leaf, three cloves, and a little cinnamon stick.
Paper muffin cases.
Muffin pan.

Directions
- Heat up the wax. Either use an old pan you don’t need much more use out of, or take an old washed out tomato tin or suchlike and put it carefully on the stove. Put in the wax, and allow it to melt down to liquid form.
Do not let the kids anywhere near this. - Whilst it does that, place the paper muffin cases into the muffin pan, and put in your aromatics. It doesn’t need to be full, just put in a few bits and pieces so that it’s ready.Â
- Cut the strings to around 1.5 inches, and dip one end (carefully!) into the melted wax. Lay down on the table to cool.
- You’ll then hold the wax end of the string as you pour in the melted wax, so in effect you have a candle wick. We recommend doing the wax pouring outside as it can get messy, and away from small people.Â
- Pour the wax up to just below the top of the muffin case, and once you’ve done all of them, set aside to cool.
- If you have had any wax overflow like we did, simply warm the bottom of the muffin pan gently and then you’ll be able to extract the fire lighter.
