Ma Cuisine Just Strawberry Jam – 300g

Ma Cuisine Just Strawberry Jam is made with carefully hand-picked strawberries from the best growing areas in Kenya. The artisan process ensures a spreadable consistency with perfectly ripened strawberry notes in both flavour and aroma. A short history lesson on jam! The first written recipe for jam is recorded in the first known cookbook; De Re Coquinaria (The Art of Cooking). It’s attributed to Marcus Gavius Apicius (believed to be a pseudonym) and dates from the fourth century AD in Rome. The book contains over 500 recipes, including a recipe for soft fruit heated with honey. The mixture was then cooled and stored, to create one of the earliest recorded forms of jam. This early type of jam was often served as a delicacy at the end of a meal. Jam has a long and prolific history, and has been enjoyed, almost religiously, by some great historical figures, here’s to name a few:

1. Joan of Arc was said to have eaten quince jam for courage before battle
2. The French astrologer and physician Nostradamus was a lover of jam, so much so that he even wrote a treatise on it  (‘Treatise on Makeup and Jam’) in 1555
3. Louis XIV of France was said to be so fond of jam that he insisted it be brought out to finish every meal, displayed on ornate silver dishes and served with silver spoons
