Founded on the farm L’Ormarins in the Franschhoek Valley, Rupert Wines today encapsulates six distinctive wine brands, among them the Protea Range, made from some of the finest sites in the Western Cape, South Africa.Â
The ethos of the Protea range rides in the back of sustainability, i.e. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. This a range consisting of everyday drinking wines, bearing the name of South Africa’s national flower, illustrating the diversity of the range and commitment to the viticultural area where this floral species flourishes. Each of the bottles is decorated with a bespoke pattern inspired by the Cape, making the bottle, like the wine an art piece in itself. The best part about this is that the label on the bottle can be peeled off, leaving you with a beautifully ornate bottle that can be reused or repurposed for a variety of decorative functions!
Tasting note:
Dark berry fruit, spice and brush of tobacco on the nose. Richly fruited palate – with cassis, blackberries and plum to the fore. The tobacco and spice notes of the nose are also apparent, along with deep fruitcake flavours and a hint of liquorice. Gentle grip and backbone make for a beautifully supple, soft-textured wine but with good intensity, body and structure. Supple and generous with a deliciously long aftertaste.
