Santa Cristina Fattoria Le Maestrelle

On a high hill in Tuscany, not far from Siena and Perugia, stands the ancient town of Cortona. On one side the spacious plain, on the other the hill and the village. This is the view enjoyed from the Santa Cristina winery, founded in 2006 to confirm and renew the tradition of its homonymous wine, over 70 years after the first vintage. Over time, Santa Cristina has become a point of reference for sector experts, and not only, thanks to a constant commitment to quality. Just like a good story, it’s a timeless Tuscan classic with a contemporary taste. The care always taken in following the vineyards and the work in the cellar has been the stimulus for continuous innovations and to deal with native and international varieties, giving life to different wines but characterized by the same artisan style.

Vinification

The grapes were picked at different times and fermented separately based on the individual grape variety.  This process allowed us to perform fermentation and maceration operations specifically for each grape variety to enhance aromatic compounds and extract soft tannins.  Fermentation temperatures never exceeded 25 °C (77 °F) and gentle pump-overs were performed. Malolactic fermentation was completed by the end of October and the wine was transferred in part into barriques and in part into stainless steel vats and left to age.  Santa Cristina Fattoria Le Maestrelle was bottled starting mid-October 2019.

Tasting Notes

APPEARANCE: Fattoria Le Maestrelle is ruby red with purplish hues.

NOSE:  It’s intense and complex on the nose with notes of vanilla and coffee in perfect balance with aromas of mint and cocoa typical of Merlot and red fruits characteristic of Sangiovese and Syrah.

PALATE: Its palate is balanced, savory and supple with a complex finish that reflects initial aromatic notes.

Food Pairing

Enjoy this wonderfully fruity and balanced red wine from southern Tuscany with bruschetta with liver ragout, with red meat, such as the classic tagliata, with cold meats with ham and Tuscan salami, as well as medium-ripe and ripe cheeses.
