Villalta Prosecco is a sparkling vino spumante – extra dry – made under the charmat method. It has lovely green apple and pear notes on the palate, dry, with delicate and persistent bubbles.
GRAPES: Glera
HARVEST: September
PRODUCTION AREA: Veneto (Treviso and Venice area).
TASTING NOTES: Brilliant straw yellow colour with delicate perlage. On the palate it delivers ripe assorted pear, apple, some citrus and a dash of nutty almond flavouring.
FOOD PAIRING: Prosecco works like a charm with antipasti, salumi and proscuitto dishes at the start of a meal: its refreshing flavours work to balance the saltiness of the dishes. It is also refreshing with cheeses, and pairs well with shellfish. While you might think that Prosecco is only for lighter fare, think again! It’s a beautiful match with oven roasted or stewed game, accented with polenta. Native mushrooms such as porcini, and paired with the sweetness of chestnuts brings out the best in the flavours of the wine. And with a slow cooked pork belly or roasted chicken it’s simply delicious.
Serve well-chilled on Valentine’s Day, or any day!
