Spring Valley Mashariki Coffee (Medium Roast) – 250g

Spring Valley Mashariki Coffee gets its name from the Swahili word meaning “the East,” and it’s named as such because it hails from the eastern part of Kenya’s coffee-growing regions, where the sun rises in the east. The choice of the name “Mashariki” pays homage to this region with the color orange.

This coffee is primarily sourced from the upper eastern coffee-growing region in Kenya, specifically Embu.

What makes Mashariki unique is that Embu is one of Kenya’s traditional coffee-growing regions, and its location in the southeastern foothills of Mt. Kenya provides rich volcanic soil and cool air, contributing to a unique flavor profile.

There are three cooperatives associated with Mashariki:

1. Murue: This cooperative consists of over 1,000 smallholder farmers known for producing high-quality coffee. T
2. Kithungururu: This cooperative has 1,200 active coffee farmers and is known for paying farmers above market rates for their coffee.
3. Kibugu: The 1,200 members of this cooperative focus on sustainability. They treat all water in soak pits to prevent contamination of local waterways, which serve as a source of drinking water. They also prioritize the protection of indigenous trees to sustain the local bird life.

For brewing recommendations, Mashariki is best enjoyed on a Hario V60, but it can also be prepared as a pour-over, filter coffee, immersion method (such as a French press), or even as espresso.
