VINEYARDS:
The grapes were grown in the warmer Olifants River area of South Africa, where conditions are ideal for the development of Muscat flavors during ripening. The vines average 17 years of age and are planted in soils that are predominantly decomposed granite (Oakleaf, Hutton and Tukulu) and eroded shale (Glenrosa, Estcourt).Â
VINTAGE:
2016 was an early vintage characterized by warm and extremely dry conditions. Yields were good on average, and the warm conditions helped with the development of intense Muscat flavours within the fruit during ripening. The vintage was free of any diseases and stress circumstances, and the vines were able to carry the crop to optimum ripeness.Â
VINIFICATION AND MATURATION:
The grapes were harvested in early February at approximately 23°B. The grapes were pressed and the juice was cold fermented in stainless steel tanks. When the wine reached an alcohol content of approximately 9.5%, fermentation was stopped through cross filtration in order to ensure a good balance between natural acidity and sweetnessÂ
