Rachna and Rushabh started The Fat Italian in the chaos of the Covid pandemic.
She tells their story: “When the fear of COVID hit Kenya, we went into lockdown, no eating out, no socialising, no working (in our case), all in all it equalled no excitement. I generally love to cook so with all this newfound free time on my hands I funnelled all of my energy into perfecting fresh pasta, ravioli specifically. With time I noticed people were looking for new and different foods to eat at home so I decided to bite the bullet and sell my fresh- frozen ravioli to friends and family. With so much positive feedback I started receiving calls from people I didn’t know to place orders. I love making fresh food at home and where possible I make in batches and freeze for convenience. This way I can enjoy homemade food whenever. With this mindset and the growing customer base, the birth of The Fat Italian (TFI) surfaced. 1 year later we are expanding into selling other fresh- frozen homemade foods delivered from our kitchen to our customers door step.”
Rachna and Rushabh’s philosophy is, if it meets their standard to eat at home and feed our family then they are confident they are providing the best product. That means using only the freshest of ingredients and no compromising on quality or quantity. The goal of TFI is to provide a variety of gourmet fresh-frozen homemade meals, environmentally move to a sustainable packaging solution and ethically provide clear concise labelling. TFI believes in freezing foods to preserve freshness without the need of nasty preservatives; it also makes great food convenient to eat at any time.
