Jani Beauty was born out of Kenya’s leading day spa, Serenity Spa. Serenity Spa started 10 years ago and today employs about 100 people and has two branches in Nairobi, with two new branches being opened this year.
Led by Petra Somen, the founder of Serenity Spa, she felt that there was a need to build a Kenyan brand for beauty products, as she had spent the past 10 years importing products from Europe and South Africa for use in the spas. She also felt like a Kenyan brand could showcase the amazing products that are available in Kenya, and Jani Beauty was formed to make a high quality, local focused cosmetic brand that showcased the best of Kenya.
Petra identified a very experienced Cosmetologist in Europe and then spent two years designing and testing the products. She wanted to build products that met not only Kenyan standards but also European standards. Working together with her husband, Jonathan, and her brother in law David, they set about building Jani Beauty together.
Called Jani, this is derived from the Swahili word Majani, meaning leaves or greenery.
