Kakuzi is located about 75km from Nairobi, on the Thika Highway that winds its way north towards Ethiopia and beyond. The farm stretches away on both sides of the road for about twenty minutes of your drive north, and what lies behind the timber plantations is a well managed farm with many different activities.
Kakuzi has been operational since 1927, and consists of 923ha of avocados, 1,356hs of macadamias, a pilot product of blueberries with 10ha, 1,500ha of commercial forestry and a herd of 4,420 cows.
The 10 hectare blueberry project on Kakuzi, is managed by Laban, and is GlobalG.A.P., GRASP and SMETA certified. Cultivation under polytunnels ensures greater control of the plants and allows higher yields of quality fruit.
Kakuzi’s location provides a temperate climate perfectly suited to the production of macadamia. From seedling to fork, Kakuzi has complete control over the entire value chain, which ensures complete traceability, and a high quality product. Kakuzi’s cows are 100% grass fed, with no inputs apart from tick control and worming, which is given when they are still young. The cows are all bred and raised on Kakuzi, which again affords complete control over quality. Kakuzi is registered with the Kenya Stud Book and is an active member of the Boran Society of Kenya.
