Sausage Plait
Sausage Plait
Course: Recipes, MainThis has Fortnum’s written all over it, even if I say so myself! Posh picnic prepare, you are about to be outdone by this stunner.
INGREDIENTS
6 – 8 chipolata sausages or 3 – 4 normal sausages
1 Pink Lady apple, grated
80g Sirimon cheddar cheese, grated
6 mushrooms, sliced
Spinach
Cooked kernels from one sweetcorn
1 tblsp Fig & Tomato Chutney
Salt and Pepper
1 pkt store bought puff pastry
Sesame seeds
Egg Wash
Directions
- Heat the oven to 180°C.
- Remove the sausage meat from their casings and place in a large bowl. Add all the other ingredients apart from the pastry, sesame seeds and egg wash.
- Roll out the pastry several times, with plenty of flour, folding and re-folding in between. Finally roll it out into a rectangular shape that is quite square.
- Lay your sausage mix down the middle of the pastry. Use a sharp knife to cut diagonal cuts along each side of the pastry (these will be your ‘ribbons’ to plait with).
- Once this is done, you can then fold the top of the pastry over the end of the sausage, and start plaiting (gently) the ribbons.
Try to ensure there aren’t any big holes as you plait. - Continue until you reach the end and fold up the end as well (it may be easier to watch the video!). Brush gently with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.Â
- Place in the oven and cook for around 30 minutes or until golden brown.
